Tango and Parkinson Program
This program is aimed at family members, therapists, students of different disciplines, coaches, physical instructors or any member of the community interested in learning to dance Tango and how to use it as a rehabilitation tool for people with Parkinson's disease.
You will learn about how the Tango embrace has been converted into an important therapeutic device in order to assist in the rehabilitation of people with P.D.
Tango has become the dance recommended by health professionals for rehabilitation through various exercises.
To dance Tango is to share an embrace between two people while walking to the rhythm of its music.
The pulse of Tango's music, the clarity of rhythm in its bars, make it very friendly to walk or dance, specifically for people with P.D.
You will learn different exercises that help with bradykinesia, festinating gait, posture, axis, equilibrium, balance and joint mobility to prevent rigidity.
Exercises that will increase body registration and benefit you in daily life, for instance avoiding falls.
Visual motor exercises, coordination, conflict resolution in situations of tremor, freezing or set shifting.
In addition, we will consider the individual as a psycho-physical-social unit and we will approach Tango dancing from motivational, emotional and cognitive aspects.
Creation and improvisation will be present as fundamental playful elements in this artistic therapy.
The exercises are easy, due to the fact that we will manage them from the embrace as a mirror container with opposite and complementary energies.
Exercises that can be practiced whenever and wherever, which enable a working plan with regularity and high motivation, in order to apply them at a later stage in social environments.
Dancing Tango is an antidote to sedentary lifestyle, isolation and depression and can also reduce anxiety and replenish energies often diminished by fatigue of those suffering with P.D.
